Top Gun: Maverick is a 2022 American military action drama film. The sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, it was directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie, from a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.
The film stars Tom Cruise as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a test pilot, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, and Val Kilmer. Set 36 years since the events of its predecessor, the film follows Maverick, who has dodged promotions that would ground him.
His career ends up taking him back to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (also known as “Top Gun”), where he has to confront his past as he is charged with training a new squadron of fighter pilots.
After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.
Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
